The flipped classroom is a nice start, but it has some serious limitations that are apparent to anyone who has employed it in his or her instructional practice. Disgruntled by these limitations, we created a new model for learning that employs current technology and modern instructional practices to maximize student learning. The model is a true self-paced system that poses some serious challenges to those "tried-and-true" practices of the industrial model. In this presentation we will introduce you to the basics of a self-paced classroom and will show you how we did it. It is our hope that all attendees will leave this session with some practical advice about how to start a self-paced program in their districts--or at the very least, will leave with a few ideas about how to incorporate some self-paced elements into their own classes.
